The same neighbors called again. "That horse we saw last night? He's come down here again. We managed to catch him this time... he's penned up in the corral with the goat."
Silly goat found by Google Images search
To the best of my knowledge, not the actual goat in question
J went out and counted horses. One bay missing.
Sure enough, Cappy had gone more than a half mile down the road, crossing several wire fences in various stages of repair, to go find... something to do?
He had company, lots of good grass, a clean water source, shelter. Was he just looking for a little adventure?
J's husband drove her over to the neighbors', and she led the delinquent home. He was not put out by the goat, the road trip, or anything else. It was all a fun adventure to him.
We found most remarkable that he had done all that the day before and snuck back into the field unscathed. Our admiration for his stealth, however, was superseded by our concern of injury, death, or lawsuit.
Containment became our priority. Cappy was no longer permitted out at night, and as soon as I returned from my trip, we decided that a stint at a boarding stable was just the thing to get him more acclimated to other horses in the ring, better jumps to work with, an indoor to work in as winter approached, and allow fence improvement to take place at a more leisurely pace at J's property. M had started riding J's horses again, and she was going to take Klaus to work through the winter.
Cappy and Klaus were loaded up, and off we went to Crazy But Lotta Fun Farm.
